The first thing that should be cleared is the WHY of this Blog. The idea of this Blog came about FIVE years ago when I was looking for some online materials (Guidelines) for starting some preliminary research work covering Bengali and Irish dramatic literature. I found some materials - but none of these materials were suited to my purpose [I wasn't even expecting] - but what was more saddening was that nowhere could I find up-to-date information on the broad spectrum of Bengali Language, Literature, History, Culture, Society, and Economics under a single portal - which would cater to mid-level to advanced readers.
My disappointment was the beginning of this Blog. I do not dare to bring EVERYTHING that I had been looking for. But at least I intend to offer something that is fairly wide enough to include further inquiry.
In addition to the above, another event worked as a catalyst. In June 2013, I was invited by an organization [Austraining Bangladesh] to deliver a TALK to a group of young men and women who had come to Bangladesh in order to engage in Voluntary Work on behalf of some Community Service Organizations. So, when, as preparation of my lecture I accessed the net, I was totally taken aback to discover that there is virtually NOT a single site that would cater to the idea of Introduction to Land and People of Bangladesh.
I intend to make the Blog primarily as a resource page in English. It will contain Bengali Names of Titles of Books, Periodicals - for reasons of reference. I also intend to include some of the newspapers articles and web-essays that are addressed to Bengali Language, Literature, Society, History. However, I want these pages to be accessed for information, readership, interpretation, exchange of ideas - anything that is NOT institutional. So, I hope that even a very personal [of course definitely NOT irresponsible] views will be tolerated as merely indication of a purely subjective nature of the Blog.
Standard of language will be International English - however, a critiquing the language itself will sometimes emerge as a policy itself. On my HOME-page I intend to include original writings based on MY reading of contemporary Bengali writing. The TABS shall mainly contain link to online materials - written on Bengal. I intend to give a very BIASED and Subjective understanding of HOW I read - and less of WHAT I read.
So, there you are. Thank you for reading this statement.
